I'm a terrible blogger..

It has been 4 months since my last blog..

I;m not sure why I'm so bad at it..I feel the urge to reach out but I read so many great blogs and don't think i have anything else that I can add to the blogging world.

Still, I can't rid myself of this urge. I feel like by blogging, I can somehow improve myself and become a better person; that people will be better able to understand me and that I will have an outlet for my thoughts.

To do a serious recap of the last 4 months wouldn't really be worth it, as very little of note has happened..so..bullit points

  • School continues
  • Sprained my knee (funny story..)
  • Bought a house and moved - now live less than 10 miles from NASA
  • Started a cycle of Cluster Headaches...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluster_headache
Im wondering if the headaches are what has made me think about blogging..while Im suffering from these, I often feel a little vulnerable, and fragile as well as a bit misunderstood. I often find myself wanting to reach out to people and explain to them that it isn't "just" a headache, its far more complex than that, and no, it's not "just caused by stress".

So, if you are my friend, please do me one thing, please read about Cluster Headaches, and try to understand them. It makes the time I suffer from them easy, when I don't have to deal with peoples misconceptions.

Fashion Blogging will resume shortly..lots of interesting classes this semester..

I won!

Little Black Dress contest results are out.

I came 3rd!

I am over the moon, espeically considering that I have won a $500 scholorship prize. Makes term fees a little easier.

I would have liked to have come first, obviously, but I didn't think I would place at all and considering this is my first competition, and the short time I had to make the garment, 3rd feels just fine.

I now get to go to a posh party in May to be presented with my prize and swan aboutwith a model wearing my dress...such a hard life!

Thanks for all the support, you guys are awesome!

Ps, I seem tohave fixed the comment issue, so now they should be visable!

Weirdness

In the comments section, the comments are all written in black. Not sure how or why and not quite sure how to fix it...ideas?

If I highlight the text I can still read the comments, so don't let it put y'all off commenting.

Today's acheivment: Handed in my finished jacket to be graded and also entered it into the End of Year show in May. Fingers crossed.

In bad news, my tooth seems to have an issue and as someone totally phobic of teeth, this is a big (and hard) thing for me to try and deal with. I'm totally terrified of losing my teeth and this one is starting to feel loose in my mouth. I know I need to go to a dentist but they are sooooo expensive and even though we have ok dental insurance, It will still be horrific. I'm also worried that they will comment on the state of my mouth. It isn't terrible but over here I have found a lot of American's have perfect teeth and its a joke that British people's teeth are not great.

Bahh to teeth...

Embroidery added to Jacket

I have added an embroidery design to the back of my jacket for class. I love it. It was part of a butterfly design I purchased on Urban Threads but I choose to use only part of the overall design as I loved it at this stage, I also did it all in silver thread.

Houston Career Day 2009

Details of the dress in progress

I know, I know..

Two months since I blogged!

I'm sorry, I just haven't had time to sit and write all that is going on at the moment. I guess that's a good thing, right?

I shall try and write a concise edition of the last 2 months, and then endeavour to keep more up to date!

As of my last post, I had started school, and was worrying a little that I wasn't going to fit in.How happy I am to be proven wrong. I love it! OK, so I'm a little ahead of everyone in my sewing class but that does have it's benefits. My sewing instructor encouraged me to enter a design into a Little Black Dress contest and after much thinking, I decided to have a go - less than 48 hours before it had to be submitted. I was never one for an easy life. Cue much frantic cutting, sewing, ripping, re-sewing and tears over a weekend but I managed to get the dress done and submitted. I then had to wait a week before I would find out if I had been shortlisted.

Move forward a week and Houston Career Day dawns. I was helping as a dresser and this was also when I would find out if my design had been selected as one of the final designs and if so, it would be going down the runway that day. I was ecstatic to learn that I was indeed one of the finalists and I had the great experience of dressing a (stunning) model in my dress, then frantically running around to watch it come down the runway. It was way more emotional than I had expected but seeing something I made, I designed being applauded as Fashion was a lot to take it. I'm so glad my instructor encouraged me to enter. I should find out in May if I have won a prize.

My actual schoolwork is going great. I am acing all my classes, even the ones I didn't expect to, like Fashion Sketching. Apparently I can sketch fashion figures and clothes pretty well. I'm really happy to have this skill as I have *always* wanted to be able to draw, get things out of my brain and onto paper and this is the perfect medium for me.

In my sewing class I have been working on first a wrap skirt, and now a cropped jacket. The items are to be worn together. I got an *A+* for the skirt which I was pleased about and its looking good for the jacket too. If the judges like the outfit, it will be shown at our end of term show (also in May) and possibly entered for a prize. Fingers crossed the judges like my style.

My instructor has also asked me to help her in classes next semester as a TA (Teaching Assistant) which will be a huge help financially but also makes me realise I'm pretty good at this.

Last week I was lucky enough to be asked to help out at a huge charity gala in Houston. Passion for Fashion, which was run by my college managed to get Cesar Galindo, a Houston designer now working in New York to come and hold a private show to help raise some funds for our department. I not only got to help out at this event, I was able to meet Cesar, chat with him and help him out with dressing the models in his beautiful clothes. He is easily one of the nicest people I have ever met and I hope all designers are as nice, calm and easy to work with as he was.

Last week I also finally took delivery of a long (long long) awaited gift. Two dress forms, which a bunch of my friends helped me to obtain. They are stunning and I love them. I have a form which is my size and shape and a sample sized form, so I can keep entering completions and shows. I had a small shock.upset when I padded my form out to look like me, it was a bit of an eye opener to say the least. I have (mostly) recovered from this, but if anyone wants to help me get Lipo for my stomach, please feel free...

Right, I think that pretty much brings us up to date. In the last 2 months there has also been a visit from my Sister which was great; and numerous other small things I am going to forget to include but I think I have covered the main events.
