Two months since I blogged!
I'm sorry, I just haven't had time to sit and write all that is going on at the moment. I guess that's a good thing, right?
I shall try and write a concise edition of the last 2 months, and then endeavour to keep more up to date!
As of my last post, I had started school, and was worrying a little that I wasn't going to fit in.How happy I am to be proven wrong. I love it! OK, so I'm a little ahead of everyone in my sewing class but that does have it's benefits. My sewing instructor encouraged me to enter a design into a Little Black Dress contest and after much thinking, I decided to have a go - less than 48 hours before it had to be submitted. I was never one for an easy life. Cue much frantic cutting, sewing, ripping, re-sewing and tears over a weekend but I managed to get the dress done and submitted. I then had to wait a week before I would find out if I had been shortlisted.

Move forward a week and Houston Career Day dawns. I was helping as a dresser and this was also when I would find out if my design had been selected as one of the final designs and if so, it would be going down the runway that day. I was ecstatic to learn that I was indeed one of the finalists and I had the great experience of dressing a (stunning) model in my dress, then frantically running around to watch it come down the runway. It was way more emotional than I had expected but seeing something I made, I designed being applauded as Fashion was a lot to take it. I'm so glad my instructor encouraged me to enter. I should find out in May if I have won a prize.
My actual schoolwork is going great. I am acing all my classes, even the ones I didn't expect to, like Fashion Sketching. Apparently I can sketch fashion figures and clothes pretty well. I'm really happy to have this skill as I have *always* wanted to be able to draw, get things out of my brain and onto paper and this is the perfect medium for me.

In my sewing class I have been working on first a wrap skirt, and now a cropped jacket. The items are to be worn together. I got an *A+* for the skirt which I was pleased about and its looking good for the jacket too. If the judges like the outfit, it will be shown at our end of term show (also in May) and possibly entered for a prize. Fingers crossed the judges like my style.
My instructor has also asked me to help her in classes next semester as a TA (Teaching Assistant) which will be a huge help financially but also makes me realise I'm pretty good at this.
Last week I was lucky enough to be asked to help out at a huge charity gala in Houston. Passion for Fashion, which was run by my college managed to get Cesar Galindo, a Houston designer now working in New York to come and hold a private show to help raise some funds for our department. I not only got to help out at this event, I was able to meet Cesar, chat with him and help him out with dressing the models in his beautiful clothes. He

is easily one of the nicest people I have ever met and I hope all designers are as nice, calm and easy to work with as he was.
Last week I also finally took delivery of a long (long long) awaited gift. Two dress forms, which a bunch of my friends helped me to obtain. They are stunning and I love them. I have a form which is my size and shape and a sample sized form, so I can keep entering completions

and shows. I had a small shock.upset when I padded my form out to look like me, it was a bit of an eye opener to say the least. I have (mostly) recovered from this, but if anyone wants to help me get Lipo for my stomach, please feel free...
Right, I think that pretty much brings us up to date. In the last 2 months there has also been a visit from my Sister which was great; and numerous other small things I am going to forget to include but I think I have covered the main events.
